Myelogenous Leukemia

Unfortunately, if someone is born with leukemia, the only solution is marrow transplant with chemotherapy. This generally takes 4 years to complete. However, the likelyhood of being born with leukemia is low because the gene is recessive. Those who obtain leukemia due to an error in replication do not always require marrow transplant. This is because they have both healthy and deformed cells. Therefore, chemotherapy is insued to destroy the deformed cells.
